The What and the Why

June 3, 2022
“The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.”

Deuteronomy 29:29

We serve a very loving, gracious God, yet He is a mysterious God.  The Lord’s Wisdom and Knowledge of all things, as He is the Creator of all things, can be a bit overwhelming at times to us human beings.  Our knowledge of God and life only expands so far as the mind can comprehend while God’s Knowledge is infinite.  God always has a plan and a purpose as nothing He does is by accident.  We do not always see and understand the way God moves and all that He does.  We do know, however, that He does all things for our good to draw us closer to Him so He can reveal more of Himself and His Ways to us.

As human beings with human thoughts and brains, we always want to ask God “Why this?” or “Why that?” or “Why did you do this and not that?”.  God loves for His Children to be inquisitive as it means we are seeking the Ways of the Lord so we may have the Mind of the Lord in our daily living.  God will always allow the “Why?” because it teaches us trust.  With God everything is a lesson.  His desire is that we learn the lesson.  All of us desire immediate answers, but the answers are not always forthcoming.  Loving God in spirit and truth will truly trust and obey.

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear”

1 John 4:18

Through all the “Why’s” we still must ask God “What are you doing? What do you need me to see and understand?”  Asking God “What?” helps us to understand His Will for our lives and allows us to receive His Leading and Guidance through the Holy Spirit.  Our asking, on the other hand, should never turn into a threatening interrogation.  God’s Way is far greater and takes us exceedingly further than our short-term demands.  It is okay to have questions for God, but it is not okay to question God.

As we seek the “What’s” and the “Why’s” of God about our lives, the question we should ask ourselves is, why wouldn’t we seek the wisdom and knowledge of the One who has already gone before and been where we are at this very moment?  Who, or what, is greater and more powerful than our God?  In the end the victory has been won.  All our mental battles and curiosities have been answered and overcome by the Blood of Jesus Christ.  We may not have all the answers today, but God’s Word and Infinite Promises will never fail us. Believe in the Lord, keep searching, and keep asking because the greatest answers to our biggest questions can be found in the Presence and Teachings of Jesus Christ.
