The Benefits Package

“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me”

Luke 9:23

Jesus Christ is the fount of all blessings and benefits we receive from God.  The Cross is the channel by which we have access to the benefits and blessings of God.  When our Faith is anchored at the Cross of Christ, we can then take up benefits of the Cross daily.  This allows us to follow Jesus into the abundant life of joy unspeakable the Lord promises us throughout the Word of God.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits

Psalm 103:2

Who forgiveth all thine iniquities:  The power of the Cross cleanses the believing Sinner, and the confessing Saint, of all sin.  There is no partial Justification, or Sanctification, in the Holy Nature of God.  We are either fully saved, fully washed, fully cleansed, or fully lost!

Who healeth all thy diseases:  Healing for our souls and physical bodies is a part of our inheritance as a Child of God.  The greater healing, however, is the spiritual restoration He performed in us.  When we came to Christ, He healed our sin-sick-soul caused by the terrible malady of sin and its effects on our mind, body, and soul.  Jesus did not merely treat the side effects of sin.  He cured the root of man’s sin problem with His Blood at the Cross.

Who redeemeth thy life from destruction:  The Blood of Christ is the only thing that preserves our life from eternal destruction.  Instead of God seeing our sin, He sees the Blood of Jesus written on the door posts of our hearts with the seal of the Holy Spirit marking us as His very own.  When we gave Christ our sin, He gave us His Righteousness.  “And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you” (Exodus 12:13).

Who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies:  God’s Love, Mercy, and Grace were on full display as Jesus Christ hung on the Cross bearing the Sin Penalty for the entire world.  It was the sin of the world that sent Jesus to the Cross, but it was His unselfish and devoted love to the world that kept Him on the Cross.  Had Jesus saved Himself, we would still be eternally lost.  Mercy rewrote our lives from eternally lost and condemned to a life of Eternal Love and Grace in Christ.

Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's:  The Holy Spirit works within us to renew us day after day into the Image of Jesus Christ.  Who we were yesterday, is not who we are today.  Jesus renews us in His Strength and girds us with fresh blessings to conquer the challenges set before us each day.

The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed:  The triumph Jesus Christ had over the powers of darkness at the Cross is now our triumph over Satan, sin, and all oppression from evil spirits in our lives.  The Righteousness of Christ brought judgement to the powers of sin center stage at the Cross in front of the world and for the world.  Faith in Christ allows us to walk in boldness, confidence, power, and victory over every evil spirit and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. “If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

Jesus endured the burdens and hardships of the Cross so you and I could reap all the benefits of the Cross.  He was our Substitute in every way so our identity could be found in His Resurrection and Exaltation at the Throne of God.  When we empty our entire lives out at the foot of the Cross of Christ, we become an open channel and a renewed vessel to receive the fullness of Jesus Christ loaded with all of the benefits the Cross affords us.
