Supreme Teacher; Supreme Savior

“And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy”

Colossians 1:18 NIV

Supremacy speaks of superiority in power, rank, and status. The Supremacy of Jesus Christ gives Him power and authority over everything in Heaven and Earth. His Name alone ranks Him as King of kings and Lord of lords. His status is validated by His Seat at the Right Hand of God. There is no equal to Him. Each day we must look to the Supreme Teacher for instruction while we thank Jesus, as the Supreme Savior, for our Salvation.

Christ makes the Word of God the criteria for all things related to life and godliness. In the Scriptures, when Jesus says, “I say unto you,” He speaks as one having authority. When Jesus speaks, “Verily, verily,” He speaks as One having the final say-so over every matter of importance. His Word speaks Creation into existence, troubles into peace, and Resurrection Life into reality. His Word is the defense against the temptations of Satan and the offense to make demon spirits bow. As the Word of God endures forever, Jesus will forever reign as Supreme Teacher over His Word.

As Jesus Christ reigns Supreme with His Word, He reigns Supreme as our Savior. No amount of self-help, self-effort, self-righteousness, or self-merit could ever save us from our sins. No matter how hard we tried to religiously reform ourselves, we were still miserable sinners. No matter how good our works seemed, they were still seen as filthy rags. We need Jesus Christ as our Supreme Savior. Only His Blood can provide us forgiveness for our sinful past, power and life for the present, and the promise of Heaven in the future.

Jesus Christ, as the Supreme Revelation of God, is the very Image of the invisible God made very real, very visible, and very present to us. As Christ forever reigns supreme over Heaven and Earth, we must allow Him supremacy over our whole life. We need to look no further than to Jesus Christ, our Supreme Teacher, and most importantly, our Supreme Savior, to live a life reflecting His Supreme Glory.
