Repentance: A Change in Direction

August 21, 2020
“The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Matthew 4:16–17

Jesus Christ began His Public Ministry with the words Repent (Matthew 4:17), Follow (Matthew 4:19), and Blessed (Matthew 5:3). One cannot follow Jesus and receive His Blessings without repentance. It all starts with changing our direction from worldliness to godliness, our condition from sinner to saint, and our position from guilty to justified in the Eyes of God.

Repentance is a change in direction, a change of heart, mind, and perception of life when Jesus calls for us to come unto Him and receive Salvation. It is coming to an understanding and realization that God is right, and we have been wrong about everything. It is in that evaluation of ourselves, we can conclude we need a Savior. We cannot keep traveling down the destructive path we are currently on. This is the conviction of the Holy Spirit that leads us to repentance.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

John 5:24

Repentance, Belief, and Faith after hearing and accepting the Gospel welcomes Salvation and a Divine Fellowship that turns our life around from a life of sin to a life of Righteousness; from a life of running from God to a life of running to God; from a life independent from God to a life dependent upon God; from a life of darkness into a life illuminated by God’s Marvelous Light; from a meaningless life to a meaningful life of hope, joy, and purpose in Christ.

Our new “In the beginning” begins with the prayer of Repentance that acknowledges who we are as sinners, who God is, and what He can do for us through His Unending Love, Mercy, and Grace to give us the Kingdom of God. When the Holy Spirit knocks upon the door of our repentant heart, He will always lead us to the Cross of Christ for us to be spiritually washed and cleansed by The Blood of Jesus. It is at the Cross where Jesus Himself lovingly, graciously, and compassionately lifts the burden of sin from off of our lives and places the shame, condemnation, and penalty of sin upon Himself to deliver and redeem us to the Father in Heaven.

Sin must be judged one way or another. We can either accept Jesus who bore Sin’s Penalty for us or bear it ourselves which welcomes eternal condemnation. Repentance is available to all right now. It is better to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior today and follow Him into a life of joy and blessedness than to wait until it is too late and meet Him as the Righteous Judge tomorrow. Let Jesus do for you what you cannot do for yourself. He will lift the burden you cannot bear and wipe away every hopeless tear that you cry. There is someone who knows and always hears. Repent, call upon Him, and leave behind all the regrets, mistakes, and shame for The Newness of Life in Christ free from it all. The Lord Jesus Christ is calling, and He is calling for you.

Tomorrow by the Winans

“Forget about tomorrow won’t you give your life today
Please don’t just turn and walk away
Tomorrow, tomorrow is not promised
Dont let this moment slip away
Your tomorrow could very well begin today”
