Higher Ground

“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.”

2 Corinthians 4:8–10

Life has a way of hurling curve balls at us through our journey to the Land of Glory. We lose ones who are very near and dear to us all too soon, or what we perceive our future to be does not come to pass as we thought it should. The bruises, voids, and disappointments we experience in the losses of life leave us troubled, perplexed, and at times, a bit lost. The scrapes we encounter during the mountains we climb and the weariness of the storms certainly hurt for a night, but by the Grace of God and His Immeasurable Love, joy comes in the morning.

We will take some punches along the way, and even get knocked down a time or two, but by the Grace of God we are never knocked out. We will struggle through a battle, but we know through the Faithful Promises of Jesus Christ, He has already won the war for us! His Everlasting Arms pick us up to keep fighting the fight of faith and continue the race He has set before us. Bruises will heal and the bleeding will stop. We will encounter new mountains that come with new obstacles. There will always be new challenges and strange hinderances, but we, as children of the One True Living God, overcome every one of them.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

Jesus Christ gives our legs the strength we need to endure the race of life mile after mile and cross the finish line stronger than ever. His Power lifts our hands to keep fighting round after round until the bell rings and our grueling 12 round fight of faith is finished. Keep the faith, run hard to the finish line, and keep fighting with perseverance.

At times we may attempt to face difficulties head on or even run away from them, but we are in Christ Jesus and never face them alone. His Resurrecting Power lifts us up higher and higher above the troubles and far away from the hurt. Yes, at times we may feel we are at a loss, but Jesus Christ reminds us throughout His Word that our confidence is ever found in Him. He has already won the overcoming victory for us at the Cross of Calvary.

As we are planted together with Jesus Christ in the likeness of His Resurrection, He keeps lifting us higher and higher. In Christ, the mountains become smaller and the obstacles easier to overcome. He lifts us up higher to make the difficulties lower as we press on the upward way to leave them all behind. By the power of the Holy Spirit we gain new heights as we come closer to our blissful home in Heaven and away from the wilderness of this life. We pray daily for His Helping Hand, the Counsel in His Voice, the Strength of His Salvation, and the Wisdom of His Word each moment through every step we take during this journey. As a child of God, we have a joy and hope in knowing the Lord will, and is, planting our feet on Higher Ground.

Higher Ground

I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining every day;
Still praying as I onward bound,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”
