Greater Than A Priority

“… that in all thing he might have the preeminence.”

Colossians 1:18

How often have we been taught to put Jesus Christ first above all else and making him our number one priority? As good and true as this is and should be, do we reach a point unknowingly where we begin to confine Jesus to a number on our list of things to do for the day? Are we trusting and leaning on Jesus in all our priorities outside of our Christian disciplines of prayer, Bible study, and church attendance?  We need to go further. We need to stop putting a number on our Lord and Savior, or a check box beside His Name. Not only should Jesus Christ come first before all things in our lives, but He should be the driving force behind everything we do. He must have the preeminence over all in our daily living.

Jesus Christ is more than a check mark on our proverbial to-do list, or religious routine. He is the very heartbeat of our life.  Our life is hid in Him and belongs exclusively to Him. The Holy Spirit gives us a burning passion to live for Him as we walk with Him moment after moment. Consistently giving the Lord complete and total control over every aspect of our daily living is putting faith into action.  The action of faith allows the Fruit of the Spirit to blossom within our changed hearts. This allows the Power of the Spirit to work through us to change the hearts of those around us for Jesus.

Life in Christ is putting Jesus at the center of all areas of our lives and letting Him be the King of kings and Lord of lords over our whole heart.  As Jesus becomes the central figure over everything in our lives, the Holy Spirit begins to radiate the Life of Christ through us to a greater degree than ever before. We begin to love those around us as Christ sacrificially loves us, forgive like we are forgiven, bountifully give, and joyfully bless like we are richly blessed by the Son of God Himself.  Every task and item in our daily routine then becomes an opportunity for God to work through us and bring Glory to His Name in all that we do.

Make Jesus THE priority, not just A priority or habit.  Jesus is more than a number 1, He is The Holy One and reigns supreme above all else. We should make Him the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End, the Alpha and Omega, and everything in between over our entire life.

Our prayer should be to ask Jesus Christ to conform us in all areas of our lives to be the man or woman of God that He desires us to be. Jesus enriches every part of our being from top to bottom. We should in all our ways acknowledge Him and let the Light of the World have His Way within us and through us in all matters.

Whatever our list of priorities are, we should prioritize Jesus in each and every one of them. Whether we have a list of 10 or 100 items, Jesus should be the Author and Finisher over every item in our list, from the greatest to the least.  Let Him have the preeminence above all things and in all things.  Allow Him to become a greater God to us so that we may live our life in Christ to the fullest.
