Calm in the Midst of Chaos

“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea,Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”

Mark 4:39

It is inevitable, storms of life are bound to come our way.  Throughout our lifetime, great storms of adversity, temptation, and chaos abruptly appear in when we least expect it.  Unfortunately, we do not have a local forecaster predicting when the storms of life are on the horizon and are given the evacuation notice of when to take shelter.  We always know they are coming, but rarely, if ever, are we fully prepared for them.  Losing a job, death of a close friend or family member, and receiving unexpected news from the doctor’s office are all fears that are in the pits of our mind, but we are never ready to hear or encounter.  We attempt to cease these storms ourselves under our own ability, but we quickly realize the storms are so severe we allow the outward surges of life to control our mental and spiritual well-being.  These storms we cannot pacify and are beyond our control.  If we ask and let Jesus Christ arise in our hearts to take control, He can change them into a great calm.

The Miraculous Power of Christ within our hearts and lives has the power to calm our spirits during the greatest of adversities that the winds of change and the storms of life bring our way.  The Lord speaks His Peace into our hearts rebuking the fears, doubts, and anxieties that occur outwardly in the midst of the sea that is our life.  The serenity that Jesus breathes into our soul is above any outward turmoil we could ever face.

We have no control over the outward temptations, adversities, and chaos in life, but it is the Peace and Calm that Jesus Christ speaks into our hearts that rebukes inward tossing and surges that so easily beset our hearts and minds. The great calm, as a result of the Lord’s command of Peace, keeps us from falling into the panic and disbelief caused by temptations and protecting our spirits from being overtaken by adversity.

Jesus Christ is Lord of all and in control of our inner most being that is our spirit.  Only Christ can rebuke the toils, chaos, and discouragement in our life to cease the winds.  Only calling on the Name of Jesus Christ and the Power of God can we welcome in a great calm and stillness to our inward tossing.
